At Larklands Nursery we love reading and it plays a great part in our learning. We are always looking for new ways to inspire children to read and enjoy books.

                     What is your favourite book?

We ask the children to bring in their book bags every Thursday and then they can visit our nursery library and choose a book to bring home to share with their family.

We enjoy looking at book's and reading stories through out our week at nursery. Mrs Johnson leads a weekly special story and rhyme time with groups of children. This session is to encourage the children to find books fun, interesting and to encourage their use of imagination, sometimes using puppets and props.

 Golden Bear

CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!
Your child has received the special ‘Golden Bear’ due to their work and positive attitude in nursery.

How it works
The ‘Golden Bear’ is given to your child at nursery on a Friday and we ask that it is returned on the Monday. On Monday Miss Morgan will take time to share and talk to your child about Golden Bears weekend.

Golden Bears Diary
In this book please feel free to use one page to record how your child and Golden Bear spent their time together. This can be recorded in various ways:
  • Your child can draw a picture, while you write down what they have drawn.
  • You can take photos of your child and the bear over the weekend and stick them in the book and write about the time they spent together. (The photos can be sent to the nursery e-mail if you cannot print them.)
  • You can write a diary entry of what your child and the bear got up to over the weekend.
The ‘Golden Bear’ is a fun opportunity for:
  • Parent communication.
  • Nursery to have an understanding of children’s preferences outside of school.
  • To reinforce and praise good behaviour, work and communication.

We are very lucky at Larklands Nursery to have a Level 3 qualified Forest School leader, Miss Banks. Miss Banks run's a program with a small group of children in the 'forest' at the rear of the school, alongside Mrs Hemsley.
At Larklands Nursery we understand the importance of outdoor learning in the lives of young children and ensure that every effort is made to use our grounds and resources to their full potential. We have seen first hand the impact the sessions have on the children in terms of self-confidence and self-awareness, understanding the world and increased progress with communication and language skills.

Here are some pictures of activities that we take part in during Forest School:

We pass around our 'Talking Stick' to introduce ourselves and share our favourite parts of the Forest School session!

We build shelters together when the weather is wet to help us to keep dry!

We enjoy a snack time together in the log circle, Hot chocolate is our favourite!
