This half term the children will be learning all about Gardens. They will have the opportunity to ask questions to a gardener and to learn about garden tools. They will also use their senses to explore a range of different herbs, draw detailed pictures of flowers and cook.
This half term Year 2 will become 'Street Detectives.' The children will go on a walk around the local area; taking photographs and looking out for different features. They will then be given the opportunity to draw a map using aerial images. The children will also find out about the history of the school. Mrs Warrington will then answer the children's questions as she came to the school when she was a little girl!
We are also looking forward to re-designing our local area! The children will use box modelling materials to design an improved Ilkeston. In addition, they will rename the streets.
Spring Term 1
Our Topic is Dinosaurs
This half term we have enjoyed a visit from some dinosaurs! We met an 8 year old T-Rex called Sophie and a baby T-Rex called Jack. Year 2 also got the opportunity to uncover some animal fossils. Have a look at our photos below.
We had a special treat today! We had a circus workshop this morning. We had a go at juggling with scarves and plate spinning. We tried to balance peacock feathers on our fingers and we had a go at walking on buckets.
This half term we have studied pirates and how they travelled, we have created a balloon globe and located the continents and oceans. We have also learnt about Grace Darling and how brave she was at the age of 14.
Next week the children will have the opportunity to go on a pirate adventure; looking for treasure that Captain Longbeard has hidden around our school.
A huge well done to all the Year 2 children that took part in Sports Day. You all tried your very best and made the teachers proud. We were particularly impressed with how
you worked as a team.
Red, White and Blue Day.
On Friday 18th May 2018 we celebrated the wedding of Prince Harry to Meghan Markle.

Pirate treasure hunt in the school grounds.
Today the children have been on a treasure hunt. They worked in teams using their maths skills to solve problems and to crack a code.
This led the groups inside to a pirate ship and a treasure chest full of surprises.
Monday 6th June 2018;
Today the children have been engaging in our new topic beachcombers. We have created our own year 2 rock pool and discovered which animals and materials can be seen in rock pools.
School sponsored run/walk
Today the children took part in a sponsored run/walk around the school grounds. All of the children were due to do for 4 laps but feeling very energetic they did 5!
Also, a huge thank you for the sponsorship money.
