Autumn Fun!

Thank you to all the parents that joined us for our annual Autumn workshop.  We had lots of fun cutting, sticking, drawing and colouring.

We had lots of fun making our healthy yogurts!

Thank you to all of the grown-ups that came with us to Morrisons so that we could get our ingredients.

The children did some fantastic instruction writing afterwards.

The Tiger Who Came to Tea

We have been learning the story 'The Tiger Who Came to Tea,' by Judith Kerr.

To celebrate children's hard work, we had a tea party at the end of the topic.

We even had a special visit from the tiger herself!

Thank you so much to all of the grown-ups who contributed towards the cost of the party!

Christmas time in Year 2

On Wednesday 27th November, Year 2 got into the Christmas spirit early during our annual Christmas workshop.

Thank you to all the parents that helped; it wouldn't have been a success without you.

We hope you had as much fun as the children.

Currently, Year 2 are extremely busy rehearsing for the Key Stage 1 Christmas concert 'It's a baby!'  Please support your child by helping them to learn their lines.

Dinosaur Planet

In our topic, this half term, the children will learn about reptiles, dinosaurs and fossils.  They will discover all about Mary Anning and her famous discovery; the Ichthyosaur.

They will also look at images of different dinosaur teeth and sort them into groups of meat eaters and plant eaters.  Furthermore, they will compare life during the age of dinosaurs with modern life.

For the 'innovate' task; the children will make sculptures of dinosaurs using different shaping techniques.

Year 2 have been making dinosaur skeletons and using the Ipad to take photographs of their work.

We took advantage of the beautiful frosty morning.

The children in year 2 took advantage of the beautiful ice formations on the spiders webs and plants in the school grounds this morning. We looked carefully at the frosty formations and took photographs. Later in the day we drew our own frosty webs. Everyone was amazed by the fantastic patterns in nature.

Look at the children's fabulous frosty spiders webs. Inspired by our weather today.

On Monday, two nests of eggs appeared overnight in Year 2! We had lots of fun guessing what was inside the eggs. The next day they hatched into baby dragons. What a surprise!!!!

look at our dinosaur sculptures make to end our dinosaur planet topic.

Here is year 2's chilli pepper homework menu for spring term 2.

The children have been learning about the fire service and how they help to keep us all safe. Everyone enjoyed looking inside a real fire engine and learning about the firefighters job.

World Book Day in year 2 at Larklands infant school.

Everyone in year 2 enjoyed world book day. The children's costumes looked fantastic and we talked about our favourite books, the authors and read books discussing our reading choices.

Art inspired by our topics focus artist Carl Warner who creates pictures out of pieces of food then photographs them.

The children in year 2 really enjoyed creating their landscape pictures in the style of Carl Warner. The children have used a variety of art and design techniques by using colour, pattern, texture, line, shape , form and space. They have been excited to describe similarities and differences in Carl Warner's art work and their own created in class. Next we will be drawing a landscape using our knowledge of colour, textures and patterns to create sketches with coloured pencils and pencil.
