Spring 1 2025

During the first few weeks in Reception this half term, we will be thinking about "Winter."  We will explore the outdoors for signs of Winter, investigate ice, find out about cold places and create our own art work based on cold, wintery colours.  We really hope it snows so that we can build a snowman!

Take a look at our Winter walk photographs below...

Reception Winter Workshop

On Tuesday 26th November, it was our Winter Workshop.  Our families and friends came along to join in with the fun!  We made robins, mittens, snowflakes and snowmen using lots of different materials. You can see from the photographs below how busy we were.

Thank you to everyone for all your help!

Children in Need

We have been thinking about Children in Need today and we came to school wearing our pyjamas or non-uniform outfits.  We have made our own Pudsey bear pictures, created a poster and made Pudsey bears using the play dough!

Autumn is Here

We have started to think about Autumn this week.  On Friday 18th October, we explored the school grounds for signs of Autumn.  We found lots of different coloured leaves, berries on the bushes, spider webs and we also noticed that it felt much colder outside.

Autumn is here!

All the Fun of the Fair!

This week, we have been thinking about the fair coming to Ilkeston town.  We have done lots of activities about the fair, including making carousel horses, spinning big wheels, paper candy floss, dodgem cars and a hook a duck.  On Wednesday 16th October, we had our own fair in Reception.  We used real pennies to pay for a go on the Coconut Shy, the Hook a Duck and then we bought a doughnut to enjoy (just a quarter, but it was still scrummy!)

Fabulous Fairy Cakes!

We have made fairy cakes in Reception this week.

We thought about the importance of washing our hands before baking and we named all the ingredients. We took it in turns to mix the ingredients together - we had to be really careful when pouring the mixture into the cake cases.  Mrs Bailey put the cakes into the oven and we had to wait for them to cook.

We iced the cakes and added lots of sprinkles.....yum!
